Undertake “the research of TCM formula modernization” of the preliminary research project of national 973 plan and by reorganizing compound monomers after TCM metabolism, a new research way—PAMD--has been put forward;

Undertake the research of international cooperation of TCM and metabolism. Based on the profound research basis of genome and metabolism, the relationship between gene expressions and metabolism is being studied for further exploration of system biology;

Undertake international science and technology cooperation plan of MOST with focus on barythymia that does harm to human physical and spiritual health. Cooperation with Finnish VTT, a famous metabolism institution, is carried out to explore the system biological features of clinical symptoms and curative effect evaluation;

Established a TCM Chemistry Information System (TCM database), which is one of the key projects in the National 10th Five-Year Plan for Tackling Key Science and Technological Problems. This database is capable of data mining for research and development of new drug. A National Software Copyright and two National Invention Patents have been authorized;

Saponin Drug R&D, which is one of the major projects under the framework of National 863 Program, has been successfully accomplished. Five patents and one NDA have been applying for;

Undertaken a number of key drug R&D projects for Shanghai Municipal Government;

Set up a Biomedical Information Public Service Platform based on TCM Database for Pudong New Area;

Implemented a TCM Genomics research platform for drug screening and a chemical synthesis platform for saponin drug;

Developed healthcare products composed of phytosterol and phytosterol glycoside for modifying immune function and help improve memory;

Developed a series of TCM information products for different customers;

Completed pre-clinical study of 2 chemical drugs and 1 novel TCM drug and is applying for NDA;

Carried out 13 various research and development projects and put some of products into markets with tremendous profits;

Applied for 23 National Invention Patents, and 11 National Invention Patents have been authorized (including four items have been transferred to enterprises); 1 application patent as inventor (not patent right holder); 1 application international patent; one computer software copyright certificate; 1 registered trademark; the patent for “Purification of TPS” was awarded the gold medal in the 2002 Hong Kong International Patented Technology Expo.
